“you experiment, you evaluate, and you adjust”
absolutely right, and one of the hardest things to learn is to only change one thing at a time. It’s so tempting to go into a site and make wholesale changes but it’s so easy to make a change that is beneficial to the site’s performance, and one that is detrimental so the overall effect is ‘no change’. This is so misleading, and can lead to a webmaster undoing all the changes or simply not capitalising on the beneficial change. Even if performance is improved which change caused the improvement? Which change should you roll out to other sites etc?
